CARDSTON -

Member of Parliament Rick Casson joined Cardston-Taber-Warner MLA Broyce Jacobs and Town of Cardston Deputy Mayor Dr. Robert Russell in announcing detailed information on the municipality’s wastewater outfall project approved under the joint federal/provincial economic Building Canada Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.

Under the terms of the one-third funding program the Government of Canada and Province of Alberta will each contribute $1,545,438 million towards the construction of a new 4,200 m pressurized force main from a lift station at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, along with significant sewer pipe replacement, as a remedy to an outfall problem that dates back nearly 20 years. The municipality will cover the remaining one-third balance, bringing the total eligible expenditure injection to $4,636,315 million.

“It is crucial that all three levels of government work cooperatively to fund major infrastructure projects required to service our communities, otherwise projects are cost prohibitive and do not happen, ” stated Casson. “This financial commitment by the federal government will concurrently help to stimulate the local economy through job creation associated with the construction of this major project.”

MLA
Broyce Jacobs said the cooperative partnership between the governments of Alberta and Canada is the catalyst that will ensure the municipality can move forward in addressing a damaging environmental situation. “Through cooperation of all government levels we are making this beneficial project a reality for Cardston,” he commented.

Deputy Deputy Mayor Russell noted that it was with gratitude that the municipality recognizes the generous Infrastructure Stimulus Fund grant for a major infrastructure project that will be undertaken in the community.

“The new treated effluent outfall line will become a reality thanks to significant grant funding from both branches of senior government.  This project will improve the management and efficiency of our wastewater infrastructure and support the protection of water quality which is a major priority for the towns elected officials and management,” he stated.  “We express appreciation to our MLA Jacobs as well to our MP Casson for their support of this project.  These dedicated elected officials continue to serve us well in Cardston and area.”
